The assault on civil liberties begins

The British government was widely expected to react to the London bombings with an escalation of its outright assault on civil liberties - and it has, with British Home Secretary Charles Clarke proposing a Europe-wide system of mass surveillance of phone calls and emails in the name of preventing further terrorist attacks.

Whatever happened to "not giving in to terrorism"...?

It is ridiculous propoganda to say that the terrorists want you to instigate fascism or a military dictatorship. that is jsut rubish spread by various leaders - they want you to instigate a islamic rule and you to be converted to islam.
failing that - they WANT you to be democratic if you cant be islamic.

So moving in that direction would hardly be "giving in". It might be wrong... but its not giving in.

Just because you oppsoe two things doesnt mean they are the same.

What the Al-Qa'ida Organization in Iraq wants:

"Jihad for the sake of Allah, so that His message be supreme, and in order to recapture all the lands of the Muslims from the hands of the infidels and the apostates, and to apply the Shari'a law, Allah's law, in these areas..."

Oh, they're not giving in to terrorism. They're taking advantage of it.

Check out BoingBoing.net - there's something fishy going on with these attacks.
