The waiting may be over

It's looking like the waiting game is drawing to a close, and that we'll finally have a government tomorrow, or maybe today. The cost? A boost in superannuation - which while I don't mind it in principle, means money which can't be spent on other things (like, say, restoring the health system) and running higher surpluses in the long run (at least, if the government wants to be fiscally responsible). But such are the joys of negotiating the different spending priorities of different sectors of the electorate.

Of course, the whole thing could still go off the rails - the Maori Party certainly seems to be doing its bit to throw a last-minute spanner in the works, which again rather confirms people's suspicions about them as well as showing just how cynical National's race-baiting policies were.

i would like to categorically deny that the Maori party has thrown me anywhere, ever. ;-)

> Hmmm. A Nat-UF-NZF-Maori govt. I know it'd be tragic - and yet compelling viewing.

But do we rally want to destroy our country for some political gain and entertainment pleasure?

As to NZfirst and labour I think it is stupid for labour to make the one concession that the rest of the electorate almost unanimously hates.
give him his cops and the gold card and whatever else he wants - just dont give him the superanuation.

This would have to be the worst time to be in government since 1998.The mortgage belt are about to be hit with raising interest rates.House prices are going to at the very best level off or fall.Inflation wll be 4% plus in 2006.All this adds up to Joe and Joess blaming whoever is in government. The minor parties will take the biggest hit proportionally. In 18 months an opposition will be in a strong position to challenge and win wiping out the minority parties that supported the government

Frankly, I'd much rather see a Nat-Act-UF-NZF-MP govt than see those greedy old wankers that voted for Winston actually get the pay-off they were looking for.
