Climate change: progress in Vienna

Despite the best efforts of regressive governments - including our own - the UN climate change talks in Vienna have managed to reach a positive outcome [PDF], recognising that

avoiding the most catastrophic forecasts made by the IPCC, including very frequent and severe droughts and water-shortages in large parts of the world, would entail emission reductions in the range of 25-40% below 1990 levels by industrialised countries.
Of course, it's not a commitment to avoid that scenario, but at least its a start. And hopefully it'll be expanded on at the climate change conference in Bali later in the year.
