Passed

The Disability (United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities) Bill, intended to ratify the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, has just unanimously passed its third reading and will become law as soon as the paperwork is done. After that, we can formally ratify, and join the civilised world.

For some reason, the National Party decided to use their speeches to gibber about trout (!) rather than the important issues of equality and ending discrimination. But then, it was pretty clear from their minority report [PDF] that they opposed the bill because it would affect their big business buddies, and that if they were in government, they would not have signed the Convention in the first place.
