The deep breath before the plunge

After a two-year race and months of building excitement, its almost over. The candidates are making their last push for support, but their time is up. Tonight (NZ time), the US votes. And like much of the world, I'm sitting here in anticipation, waiting. Waiting to see if the US rejects the insanity of the last eight years. Waiting to see if they really are the decent country they proclaim themselves to be.

According to BBC, the first polls close at 23:00 GMT, or lunchtime NZ time. After that, polls will be closing hourly, but it'll probably take until 15:00 NZ time until the big Eastern states come in and we can see who has won Florida, Pennsylvania and Ohio. If Obama takes them, then its probably in the bag.

BBC also has an electoral college map here. You might find it useful.

Meanwhile, to readers from the US: please vote. The world is depending on you.
