Submit!

The Law and Order Committee has called for submissions on the Corrections (Contract Management of Prisons) Amendment Bill. Two copies, by Friday, 22 May 2009, to:

Law and Order Committee Secretariat
Parliament Buildings
Wellington
The bill would allow prisons to be privately managed. In the process, it would remove private prisons from public scrutiny, by contracting out of fundamental constitutional provisions such as the BORA, Ombudsmen's Act, and OIA. It doesn't have to be done that way, and there's a real chance for submissions to make a difference in that area.

If you haven't submitted on legislation before, there's a handy guide here [PDF]; its as simple as writing a letter saying what you think of the law and why.
