Freedom comes to New York

Last month, the state of New York legalised same-sex marriage. Today, they began processing marriage licences. Zombies did not erupt from the earth to eat the brains of the living, the moon did not turn to blood, and the sky did not fall. Instead, people got happily married:

Hundreds of gay couples have wed in New York after it became the sixth and most populous state in the US to recognise same-sex unions as legal.

Newly-weds brandished their marriage certificates as ceremonies were held from Manhattan to Niagara Falls.

And again, I'm left wondering: how long until we get to see this in New Zealand? Or are we going to remain in the grip of a bigoted minority forever?
